Small Pleasures

It's been so long since I've blogged I've almost forgotten how to blog (not really). I don't know why I've been away. I guess I am feeling very FULL right now. Full of emotion, of stress, and of this shimmery, effusive love for the pieces of my life that fit. My kids. Lars. My parents, my brother and sister-in-law. My nieces and nephews. My writing. My friends.

I promised I would tell you about the results of the neuropsych. I will, but not now. Right now I am sitting with my boy on the no-longer-butterscotch-colored couch, watching Family Guy. (I know, Mother of the Year, right here. Thank god all the jokes go right over his adorable Aspergian head.) He is eating the Steakums sandwich I just made him. (Is that stuff even FOOD? It's his new thing.)

And I am just feeling happy to have him with me. Grateful for small pleasures. I don't take anything for granted anymore.

You know what else I am grateful for? You guys. The people who read this blog. Who sometimes reach out and let me know you're there. And who sometimes don't, but I can feel you there, anyway. You probably don't know what that means to me, that you have our backs. It is an indescribable feeling. It is wonderful.

Thank you. And now back to our incredibly vulgar television programming.

((hugs))

  1. Ahhh, hugs back to you! Enjoy your Family Guy. And the not-quite-food sandwich :)
Think of you often, you and yours. Happy weekend Anna.

    1. Thanks, Megan!! So glad you are out there, thinking of us from the other side of the world! I've been truly loving your own posts recently...so beautiful. Several times I've wanted to comment but have been somehow suspended in this horrible intertia. Your blog is truly a gift. I am going to link it to my sidebar in the next day or so. Have a great day! (I think it's tomorrow there now??)

P.S. Have you ever seen a Tasmanian devil? Here we think of a spinning, snarling, havoc-wreaking cartoon animal from the Bugs Bunny cartoons whewn we hear that name. Is the real thing nasty or dangerous? I think I heard they're called devils because they are shy and hard to catch or find...but that may not be true. My kids think you guys have all the best animals...except the funnel web spiders. ;)

    2. Ohhh Anna, I'm so glad! And incredibly honoured that you would link to it in your sidebar. Wow. Thank you!!

YES, I have seen a few Tasmanian devils - not in the wild, but there's a wildlife park not far from us, and we go once a year or so. They are truly vicious little creatures (even though they're not much bigger than a cat) and it's funny to watch them snarl and rip ferociously into their keepers' shoes.

  2. I used to eat Steak-ums all the time as a kid! It was my favorite after-school snack! I loved that stuff--I can even remember its taste, which is unlike any other meat I've ever tasted (in a good way), and brought on this weird satisfaction when I ate it. Anyway, I think it is perfectly legitimate food. And I love the image of you and Benjy watching Family Guy together and eating Steak-ums.

    1. Thanks, Colleen! For the record, I was not eating the Steakums. I was afraid to. But with your seal of approvasl on them, maybe now I will try them. ;) I've been enjoying your A-Z dreaming posts, and feeling quite amazed at the level of detail you can remember in the morning. And I love the way you describe these dreams. They are MUCH more interesting than the stuff I dream about, which is usually either nonsensical or scary. (Last night I am sorry to say I dreamt I was trying to set Saskia up with a close friend's much older son. Ew.) Hope all is well with you, wherever you are now (have you disclosed that?).
